A Mass with Healing Prayer is a Mass followed by a time of prayer with a particular focus on asking God for healing. While sometimes people refer to a "healing Mass," we should not forget that God's healing is available at every Mass, not just certain ones. At these Masses, the homily or the songs may tend to relate to healing or the activity of the Holy Spirit. For example, at St. Mary of Sorrows on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord in 2008, the homily included teaching on Baptism and its relation to the Holy Spirit, and during the homily there on Pentecost 2008, the priest taught about what happened on Pentecost in the early Church, and how we can experience Pentecost in our own lives. In that homily the priest encouraged us to be open to the Holy Spirit every day. The singing at Mass may be lively, and people may be encouraged to clap or sing with uplifted hands. Most importantly, the priest encourages everyone to pray with great faith when receiving Holy Communion. At that moment Jesus, the Healer, is with us in the closest way. During the Eucharist, at every Mass, Jesus comes to us. He healed people in the Bible with His touch and can do the same today.
After Mass, there may be a time where people briefly speak about experiences of healing, and a time for individual prayer ministry with the priest or others through whom God has worked with the gift of healing. While waiting, people may pray and sing songs of praise and worship. People may also prophesy and pray in tongues. Sometimes people rest in the Spirit by falling gently to the floor. When one rests in the Spirit, they experience God's love in a powerful, direct way. Catchers accompany the prayer ministry team to catch anyone who might rest. Resting in the Spirit is not necessary to receive healing, and God never forces people to do this. However, it does happen and people who rest describe it as being immersed in God's love. This part of the evening is clearly not the Mass, but rather a time of prayer, and the format may vary from one place to another.
The Arlington Healing Ministry also holds Masses followed by a time of individual prayer for healing.

Poem
This poem was written by a thankful heart who received healing when her son prayed for her at a Mass and Healing Service on July 21, 2014. This poem is about God’s healing and also the simplicity and power of intercessory prayer. She was in too much pain to leave the house, but God answered her son's prayer for her at the Mass. During this time she noticed she did not have any more pain from a surgery just three days before. A Gift of Healing by Linda July 22, 2014 In the well of pain His presence lay, the healing swift and sure. Miracles and hope fall like golden stars through the vessel of a gifted priest. Unexpectedly and warm, tender mercies bestowed on murmured prayers. Among the blessed, this mother's son, the gentlest of souls, Opens his heart in faith and love, seeking balm for his mother's pain and patiently waits as The Holy Spirit touches his core and closes wounds, sprinkling quiet healing on those unaware. |
