"Young people ... the Church asks you to go, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to those who are near and those who are far away. Share with them the freedom you have found in Christ. People thirst for genuine inner freedom. They yearn for the Life which Christ came to give in abundance.” – Pope John Paul II, World Youth Day, Denver 1993

IGNITE is a community of Catholic charismatic young adults who are committed in helping one another to encounter the love of God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit and develop a personal relationship with the Holy Trinity so that their faith may be ignited and be empowered to share the Gospel with others.  Gatherings include praise, worship, teaching, prayer ministry, and fellowship.

God inhabits in the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). Praise is a vehicle of faith which brings us into the presence and power of God! Praise and worship is the gate which allows us to enter the sacredness of His glory. The psalmist writes, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name” (Psalm 100:4).

St. Charles Borromeo talked about that "tiny spark" that exists within those who are faithful, and implores those who recognize that spark of faith to treasure and sustain it like a "stove tightly shut so that it will not lose its heat and grow cold."  Isaiah 42:3 says, "A bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench." Emily Dickinson wrote a poem that says, “You cannot put a FIRE out—a thing that can ignite can go, itself, without a fan—upon the slowest night.” May that tiny spark, which so often grows dim, ignite our souls so that it will never go out, even during the "slowest nights" that are yet to come.

Keys to Unleash Power in Prayer - February 2011

Fr. Dave Pivonka, Franciscan T.O.R. lead about 300 young adults on a spiritual journey. We learned to open up to the Holy Spirit, get to know Him in prayer, and experience Him in everyday life. We learned about how prayer and trusting God are essential to our relationship with Him, but in order to move deeper in the spiritual life and unleash power in prayer we must confront sin honestly and come to God - since only He can set us free. We need to approach God's mercy not just as a cleansing routine, but to experience Jesus who died for us and rose from the dead because He is waiting for us to let Him transform us from the inside out. Local musicians lead beautiful and heartfelt songs of praise and worship, and we enjoyed fellowship with old and new friends. View the photo album. Listen to the talks: Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and the talk on Suffering.

Arise DC - Young Adult Festival
“I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me.” - Galatians 2:20

ARISE DC is a day-long young adult Catholic festival with praise and worship leader Matt Maher and inspiring, challenging speakers Paul George from ADORE 2097 and Ralph Martin from Renewal Ministries. Hundreds of young adults from all over the area gathered for music, dynamic speakers, fellowship, praise and worship, Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration.

ARISE DC was hosted by Youth Arise International, the Washington and Arlington dioceses, and lay organizations and associations. ARISE DC was planned, organized, and attended by young adults from diverse cultural backgrounds, representing the universality of the Catholic Church.

The theme of ARISE DC 2009 was Galatians 2:20, a call to conversion and vocation, "I live no longer I, but Christ lives in me." At the 2007 ARISE DC conference, 350 young adults gathered, and 20 gave their lives to Jesus as personal Savior and Lord during Eucharistic Adoration in response to the invitation given by Bishop Sam Jacobs to follow Christ with all of their hearts.

Themes of past Arise Festivals
October 7, 2007 - "Just as I have loved you; you also should love one another." - John 13:34

July 2008 - World Youth Day was held on the international level in Sydney, Australia. The theme was Acts 1:8, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses." Youth Arise International held a Young Adult Festival in Brisbane prior to World Youth Day 2008, and then assisted with an evening of praise and worship before the Blessed Sacrament with 150,000 people along Sydney Harbor. The evening, called "Receive the Power," was a collaboration by many groups and movements. Matt Maher (USA), Robert Galea (Malta), and Hillsong United (Youth music ministry of Hillsong, Australia's largest Protestant congregation) lead praise and worship. Bishop Grech lead the culmination of the evening with Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

February 21, 2009 - "I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me." - Galatians 2:20

Pope Benedict XVI speaking to Young Adults about the Holy Spirit

Homily, July 20, 2008, World Youth Day

"Dear young people, let me now ask you a question. What will you leave to the next generation? Are you building your lives on firm foundations, building something that will endure? Are you living your lives in a way that opens up space for the Spirit in the midst of a world that wants to forget God, or even rejects him in the name of a falsely-conceived freedom? How are you using the gifts you have been given, the “power” which the Holy Spirit is even now prepared to release within you? What legacy will you leave to young people yet to come? What difference will you make?

The power of the Holy Spirit does not only enlighten and console us. It also points us to the future, to the coming of God’s Kingdom. What a magnificent vision of a humanity redeemed and renewed we see in the new age promised by today’s Gospel! Saint Luke tells us that Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of all God’s promises, the Messiah who fully possesses the Holy Spirit in order to bestow that gift upon all mankind. The outpouring of Christ’s Spirit upon humanity is a pledge of hope and deliverance from everything that impoverishes us. It gives the blind new sight; it sets the downtrodden free, and it creates unity in and through diversity (Luke 4:18-19; Isaiah 61:1-2). This power can create a new world: it can “renew the face of the earth” (Psalm 104:30)!"
